Showing Movies on the ScoreVision Screens in the Gym

If you are trying to show movies in the gym it probably won’t work to:

  • airPlay from your iPad.
  • use a lightning or USB-C to HDMI dongle from your iPad

This is because there is some bit of hardware somewhere in a whole chain of hardware that doesn’t like the way some other piece of hardware is trying to send video signals that have Digital Rights Management (DRM) applied to it.

However, you can probably get it to work from either of these two directions:

  • Stream the movie from the AppleTV.
    • Note that this did not work with Disney+ when we tried it.
    • Load the app that can stream the the content you want onto the AppleTV in the ScoreVision rack. It’s called Gym (not gym audio only).
    • You can do this with the AppleTV remote in the mezzanine, or you can use the Apple Remote app from your iPhone or iPad.
    • You have to be connected to the ScoreVision WiFi to use the apple remote app to control the appleTV.
    • If the app you need is already installed, you might have to log someone out and log yourself in to view your content.
  • Stream the movie from the browser on a laptop.
    • Note that this did not work with Disney+ when we tried it.
    • You can hook a laptop up to ScoreVision using the HDMI extender on the chapel cart. Depending on the laptop, you might also need an HDMI dongle. Just go to the website of the streaming service and stream it like you normally would on a computer. Full screen from the website, not from the browser (at least on Amazon Prime Video).
    • You might be able to AirPlay from a laptop to the AppleTV. I didn’t think to try this configuration.
