NOTE: If you are finding this from a search engine, some of these hints will only apply to how we log into Canvas at Lincoln Lutheran. You might want to check out this Help Document from Canvas.
Logging into Canvas has been a pretty smooth process for us in the past, but this year, especially for new students, it hasn’t gone as well. If you’re having trouble logging into Canvas, try these things. If one of them works for you, please let Mr. Sommerer know which one worked:
Order is important (first login only)!
If you are a student having trouble logging in for the first time, the order you log in can help:
- Log into your Lincoln Lutheran email account from a browser (not an email app).
- Log into your Lincoln Lutheran Canvas account from a browser (not the Canvas app).
- Use the Canvas App.
Are you sure you want to use the Canvas App?
We have far better luck this year with the Canvas website than with the app. If you try the App hints below and you still can’t log into Canvas, you might want to use the Canvas website until we get the problems ironed out.
Should I have to log into the app each time?
No, and you might be able fix this by entering LL and hitting enter when the app asks you to pick your school instead of entering Lincoln Lutheran.
Website: use the correct URL
New in 2024, our students and parents go to different screens to log into the Canvas website. You can get to the correct screen at canvas.lincolnlutheran.org. The reason we use different screens now is that our students and teachers log into Canvas through their school Google accounts. Parents use their email address and password.
- Students/Teachers: https://ll.instructure.com
- Parents/Substitutes: https://ll.instructure.com/login/canvas
Both: Log into your school email account first.
Some students find that they are able to log into Canvas with their school Google account if they first log into their Google account apart from Canvas. You can do that by going to accounts.google.com in a browser and entering your school email address and password.
Both: “Error: app_not_configured_for_user”
If you get this error in a browser, try deleting your cookies and emptying your cache. If you don’t know how to do that, search for how to do each of them on your device. For example: “How to delete cookies on an iPad” or “How to empty the browser cache on a chromebook”. Some students have found that just using another browser will also fix this problem. If you get this message in the app, try deleting and reinstalling the app.
App: Try the short form of our school name
When the Canvas app asks you to find your school, just type in LL instead of Lincoln Lutheran. Theoretically, both of them should work, but LL has worked for some students where Lincoln Lutheran didn’t.
App: “Try to log in again”
For some students, after their first attempt to log into Canvas they see the message in red “Try to log in again”. This is a link, and clicking on it actually does immediately log some students in. But for other students it just continues to loop through the login process.
App: Reinstall the app
For some students, deleting the app and reinstalling it from the app store fixes login problems.
